Encapsulated NaI(Tl) Scintillators

  • The well type NaI(Tl) scintillator is a g ray detector with a cylindrical part (well) that is set concentrically in a cylindrical NaI(Tl) crystal. This assembly is often encapsulated in an aluminium housing.  For measurements, specimen is entered to well part and light output can be obtained from the optical window on the top.  This well shaped design is especially useful when low-level radiation must be efficiently detected.   • The side-hole type NaI(Tl) scintillator is a detector with a side-hole passing vertically through the axis of the cylindrical NaI(Tl) crystal. It is usually encapsulated in aluminum housing.
