The usual type of NaI(Tl) scintillator is a g ray detector whose NaI(Tl) crystal is cut into a cylinder and encapsulated in aluminum or steel cases with an optical windows on the top.  For measurements, the radiation would enter from bottom or side face of the cylinder, and flurescence light output can be obtained from the optical window on the top, an uniform light output and the excellent energy resolution could be obtain for this type of design, and this type of the NaI(Tl) scintillators are widely used for in scintillation measurement or scintillation spectrometer detector for ordinary g ray.
